**Elvis Presley** recorded several original Christmas songs, including 1966s If Every Day Was Like Christmas. This song was written by his friend **Red West**, who had released his own version on a small label the year before. Wests version didnt gain much attention. Recognizing the songs potential for Elvis, West slipped it under Elvis' door, saying, Listen to this.

Elvis liked the song and decided to record it in Nashville in June 1966. However, he had a cold and was reluctant to sing that day, so West sang along with the band, for Elvis to overdub his vocals to the track later. If you listen closely to the recording, you might hear Wests voice.
