### Introduction:

The purpose of this exercise is to attain an independent and flawless technique in **Major and Minor thirds**. _(Ascending and descending)_ To isolate the issue at hand, the thirds are unaccompanied throughout the exercise. **The playing speed is insignificant; what matters is that you stay in time.** A metronome is highly encouraged. As a Qwerty player you also have the advantage of transposition, making the muscle memory for the thirds in this exercise transfer to other keys too.

### Practice guide (Applies to all playing, not just this exercise):

When playing Qwerty, its important to always resort to a relaxed hand position when possible. Start by placing both hands on your keyboard in a neutral, non-strained position, with both thumbs covering the spacebar, your left pinky in close proximity to the left shift key, and the remaining fingers covering the middle area. Keyboard sizes vary, so feel free to experiment and adjust the position to your instrument.

Besides from that, you should always use the fingers that are closest to the note(s) you are playing. This is, of course, to maintain the relaxed state of the hands throughout the entire piece. You may be inclined to use your stronger and more conscious fingers in scenarios where they are not the closest fingers to the notes. This should be avoided as it breaks the relaxed state. There are exceptions, especially in more difficult repertoire, but by default, and specifically in this exercise, you should apply these fundamentals.
